VISAS
Mexico has available different kind of visas for anyone moving to the country, for immigrants an non immigrants, they are called FM2 or FM3 visas.
They are very easy to obtain at any INAMI office once you move to Mexico, or at any Mexican Consulate before you move.
Depending on the kind of business or activity you are planning to have in Mexico, Federal Government will issue the kind of visa to fit your needs.
REAL ESTATE OWNERSHIP
Against the myth about leasing property in Mexico, Mexico allows full ownership of Real Estate to foreigners in all the Country.
Any foreigner can get title of Real Estate anywhere in Mexico on his/her name, or a foreign entity's name in the title.
35 miles from the beach foreigners can do the same, in this case the difference is that title must be trusted in a trust where a Mexican or international bank is the trustee for your protection, in this way you can designate beneficiaries as part of your estate planning strategy.
BANKING
Once you have your FM visa, you can open bank accounts with any bank in Mexico. Major banks are Banamex owned by Citigroup, HSBC, Scotiabank, BBVA Bancomer, Santander, Banorte and Inbursa owned by Carlos Slim's Carso Group, among others.
All of them offer online banking and international wire transfer from and to Mexico. Always look for a branch with bilingual staff and fast service to have a good experience.
CARS
You can drive your foreign cars to and all along Mexico getting a temporary permit at the port of entrance good for 6 months, once you get your FM3 visa (FM2 requires use of Mexican or Imported cars), car permit renews every time you renew your visa. This service is also available online.
Always get full coverage Mexican Car Insurance, your US or Canadian policy do not cover your car in Mexico most of the times. Car insurance is always a small fraction of what you pay in the USA.
BUSINESS
You can run, manage and operate any kind of business in Mexico owning 100% of a Mexican corporation YOU DON'T NEED A MEXICAN PARTNER as is believed, with the exception of: Transportation, Open Telecommunications, Oil extraction or Electricity Generation for commercial use. Any other economic activity is open for anyone.
Incorporating in Mexico is easy and fast, but as in any other Country, you must consider there are regulations and different business ways and times to have the things done. Don't think things will work like in your Country. For instance, a corporation can be completed in about 2 to 4 weeks, but having it ready with tax ID and banking accounts sometimes can take even 2 months.
HEALTH CARE
Healthcare in Mexico is a Civil Right by a Federal Constitution Mandate, then any resident holder of an FM visa, has the constitutional right to receive medical attention while in Mexico.
There are 4 healthcare systems available in Mexico for any Citizen or Resident:
PUBLIC HEALTHCARE - Provided by Federal and Local Goverments, very low cost or free.
SOCIAL SECURITY MEDICAL CARE - Provided by the Social Security Mexican Institute IMSS - annual cost is about $300 USD.
NATIONAL SPECIALTIES INSTITUTES - Provided by foundations in which Medical Organizations and the Mexican Government are sponsors, Best Medical Technology and Medical Doctors, the cost depends on patience financial conditions.
PRIVATE SYSTEM - Provided by private hospitals and doctors, wonderful service and equipment, cost is a fraction of what it is in the USA, you can pay directly or buy HEALTH INSURANCE with a private insurance company as you are used in the USA, Canada or Europe.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS
They are excellent in Mexico, telephone, cellular, internet, broadband, G3 are available anywhere in Mexico, in some cases even little towns plazas have wireless internet connection available.
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS
Top retirement cities have a major international airport servicing that area, flights and airlines depend on the location and passengers traffic. Most of them are excellent and very safe, Mexico is one of the countries with less air accidents globally. As an example, Cancun airport won the award in 2009 for the best one in Latin America, and Mexico City terminal 2 is one of the most modern and functional terminals in the Americas.
FOOD AND SHOPPING
Depending on the size of the town or city, you will find any kind of food, from a typical "mercado" to a Walmart, and restaurants that can go from a traditional "taco stand", to a Mc Donald's, Chilli's or the most sophisticated luxury international food restaurant.
